Application & Selection

Search for a job and apply

The first stage of the recruitment process is to complete an online application form. Once you have submitted your form online, it will be marked in accordance to our eligibility requirements and our set scoring criteria.

You are only eligible to apply to HMGCC if:

a. You are a British citizen

b. One of your parents is a British citizen or has substantial ties to the UK

c. You have lived in the UK for the last ten years, but you may still be eligible even if you have not been here all that time

d. In some cases you must be at least 21 years of age

As the process is all online, you will be notified via email of your progress. Please ensure that you check your emails on a regular basis.

Should you be successful at the application form stage you may then be invited to either complete some online tests that will assess your suitability for the role and depending on the position you have applied for you may also be asked to take part in a telephone interview.

If you are successful, you will then be invited to attend an interview at our premises in Milton Keynes.

Due to the nature of HMGCC’s work it is important that we can be sure that all employees are trustworthy and therefore all candidates should expect to undergo a stringent security clearance procedure in order to be cleared to a high level.

Security clearance will involve you going through a process of ‘vetting’ which will include an in-depth look into your life such as your background and financial situation. Some people may find the vetting process intrusive but it is essential for the security of HMGCC and therefore important that you do not conceal or lie about any of the vetting criteria. If you do, your application will not be taken forward.

You will not be required to complete the security forms when you first apply, only candidates selected for interview will have to complete them.

Please note, when you complete the application form you will need the following documents to hand: National Insurance number, Passport, Passport number and Naturalisation certificate (if applicable).

Application Form Hints & Tips

The application form is online and allows you to log-in and out at your convenience. To ensure that you are one of the first to be considered, it is important that you submit your application form as early as possible while still ensuring that all sections have been completed appropriately and to the best of your ability.

Depending on the position you apply for, you may be required to answer a series of competency based questions that are designed to assess how effectively you will perform in the role.

Your responses to these questions will be used to assess your application, so it is very important that you provide the best responses you can.

Your examples could come from any area of your experience; for example, paid employment or voluntary work, during education, or in connection with your hobbies or interests. Please ensure that you give a specific example for each question and that you answer all parts of each individual question. By doing so you ultimately have the best chance to progress in our recruitment process.
