Training & Development
Rest assured, we're totally committed to continuous development and training. So much so that this isn't just a centre of excellence, but a centre of learning. Every day brings you into close contact with experts from a whole range of engineering, technology and manufacturing sectors. This steep but fascinating learning curve is certain to give you a far broader - and, in many respects, much deeper - professional exposure than most working environments. And it helps to explain why HMGCC is such an intensely rewarding experience.
However, your training is not confined to work experience alone - far from it. Whether you are a newly qualified graduate or a highly experienced professional, you'll be encouraged to join our Continuing Professional Development Scheme (CPDS). Our goal is to make sure that you achieve - and continue to achieve - to your full potential.
And believe us, this is not empty PR-speak. We back every word with hard cash. We invest considerably more than the industry standard on a range of learning and development programmes that are designed specifically to build your personal, professional and technical expertise.
When you start, you will follow a comprehensive induction programme. This will show you more about our business and also kick start the networking process with colleagues from other departments and disciplines. Each area has a well-stocked technical library - so access to international standards and the very latest research material couldn't be easier.
That's just the beginning. We go on to offer you a whole range of development opportunities, including 1-to-1 training, mentoring, briefings, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, attachments and secondments. Like everyone else here, you'll have your own personal development plan so that you can influence the shape and direction of your own career. And, in turn, this will help us to focus precisely on your development needs - both now and long into the future.
Through the CPDS, we currently support people* who are members of:
- The Institute of Physics
- The British Computer Society
- The Institute of Engineering & Technology
- The Institution of Mechanical Engineers
- The Association for Project Management
- The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply
- The Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development
- The Association of Accounting Technicians
- The Institute of Process Control
- The Institute of Directors
*Some of these people are undertaking professional qualifications whilst others are working towards Chartered status. Our engineering scheme is accredited with the IET and we are continually exploring opportunities to work closely with other professional bodies.
