I joined HMGCC shortly after graduating from university with an Electronics Engineering degree, and I've been here for 2 years now. I was very anxious to use my engineering skills as soon as possible after graduating, and progress my professional development towards chartered status.
I was initially attracted to HMGCC because I wanted to work with (and design) cutting-edge hardware. I soon realised after the interview stages that HMGCC was full of talented engineers committed to doing just that. The low turn-over rate of engineers here speaks for itself.
The pace of project development in my current department keeps the work both challenging and interesting. I have to adapt my skill set all the time to meet the demands of our customers, and there's never a dull moment. Looking back over the portfolio of projects I've worked on, it's hard to believe the volume and variety I've already completed. The technical areas of expertise I work in shift with each project, but they generally include radio frequency systems, embedded electronics with software design, analogue electronics design and automated test system design.
The ability to learn quickly is critical in this work environment. Nobody is expected to know everything when they join, however, as a Graduate Engineer, you're expected to fill in the gaps as required. This is done through formal training as well as guidance from Senior Engineers (who are far better teachers than university lecturers, partly because you're learning from them on the job, delivering real projects.)
If you're looking to develop as a professional, HMGCC is definitely the place for you.
