Senior Electronics Engineer

I'm a Chartered Engineer -  a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. My first degree was in Applied Physics - but my interests have always been in radio systems and radio frequency engineering and technology. I joined HMGCC five years ago, after many years working on both military and industrial radio systems.

I had quite a few preconceptions before I joined. I was expecting to struggle with Civil Service dogma and bureaucracy, but as it turned out, I was very pleasantly surprised.  The environment is really open and accommodating.

Since I joined, I've worked on a diverse range of projects, with really good people who've got a wide spectrum of skills - it's been really enjoyable. HMGCC is extremely self-sufficient in many areas of electro-mechanical, electronic, firmware and software technology, which makes bringing projects together particularly satisfying and knowledge enhancing.

The range of equipment and tools to do the job is very good. Given a sound business case for a project, I've always found that the financial or human resources needed to get things done well are always available, despite the breadth of technology that the work encompasses.

I think that HMGCC is an excellent place to join from University. As well as exposure to a wide range of practical applications of technology, you'll also find that the mentoring here is exceptionally good. For those with existing experience, this is a special place to apply it, share it with others, and gain further experience in a unique working  environment. All that, and, of course, working here means you can play your part in ensuring the security and safety of the United Kingdom and its citizens.
