Before I got the job here I worked at Rolls Royce as a Production Control Engineer. Well I was looking to relocate so I started scouting around for jobs in production management. But then I decided to broaden my horizons and started looking into project management. And that’s how I came across this place.

My first impression was that this was an organisation that was involved in interesting technological work. On top of that, they seemed like they actually cared about their staff. It wasn’t just about what skills you had, it was about how you fitted in as a person. The culture here is very professional but it’s also caring and friendly. I was really made to feel welcome straight away and it wasn’t long before I fitted right in.

The training here is very good. There’s a very good induction process which helps you to fit right in. You get to meet all the key people and they give you a really good overview of the whole organisation. As far as role-based training goes, I’ve been encouraged to join a professional body and gain accreditation. There’s a real appetite for training here. If you want to develop then you’re given every support possible.

I’m now a Senior Project Manager and Section Leader of the project office. Right now I’m working on quite a high-profile project. We’re on quite a tight deadline so it’s quite high-pressured. It’s all about solutions so you have to be proactive about problem solving. I love the fact that I’ve got the autority to run my projects and make decisions that can take things forward. Although of course, you do have to be responsible for the outcome.

For me, the biggest selling point about this organisation is the work-life balance. The hours are pretty good and you’re encouraged to work within them. There are real opportunities to further your career. You can progress quickly and you’ll be well supported in your training. Plus the work’s not just interesting, it’s challenging too. It’s nice to be pushed intellectually rather than just through a heavy workload.
